Updates: November 2013

11. 12. 13.

Those of you who are very observant might realize that this is the penultimate year of which when one writes the date in the form MM/DD/YY, with M denoting month, D denoting day, and Y denoting year, of course, the numbers are consecutive. After next year (12/13/14 - December 13, 2014), we will not see consecutive number dates for probably the rest of our lifetime (until January 2, 2103).

Enough of the pointless trivia.
Yes, I have some things with numbers.
No, I am not a mathematician although math is one of my favorite subjects.

I can simply copy and paste certain parts of last month's post of updates and make those this month's post of updates. However, I am not that lazy, nor do I consider myself to be that lazy, and I have a few things to add.

First of all, I finally have a Nintendo Wii U. (Hooray!)

Those Mario and Luigi bundles flew off shelves of practically every store that has them very quickly, and as the holidays come closer, they still are, and they will continue to do so.

Since I mentioned that, yes, I have both New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U.

And yes, I also got Sonic Lost World. (Hooray!)

Any gameplay videos of any or all of the three games soon? I hope so, but of course, (SPOILER ALERT,) I will not start doing them this month, and therefore, I will not post them beginning this month.

Besides, I have yet to play any of the games.

Anyway, my Nintendo Network ID is none other than blackblur7. I look forward to some of your friend requests.

And so, updates regarding the upcoming activities here (in simple sentence fragments)...

BLACKBLUR7 - nothing.
BLACKBLURX - nothing.
BLACKBLUR7X - Mario Power Tennis is still ongoing.

In short, November is a VERY FRANTIC month for me.
Do not expect much at all.

Outside here, at least as far as games are concerned, with the holidays slowly approaching, many highly-anticipated games are out since the beginning of last month: Pokémon X and Y, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Sonic Lost World, and others.

Mario and Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games is already out in Europe and Australia; North America will get its copies this Friday, and Japan will get its own next month.

Yes, compared to all of the update posts so far, this one is obviously the most unorthodox.

The end.

Adios.

Sonic Dash Global Challenge - Sonic Lost World Card Collection

The third Sonic Dash global challenge is now ongoing. In light of Sonic Lost World, the third global challenge involves the very simple task of collecting as many cards that showcase Sonic the Hedgehog's newest foes, the Deadly Six, while dashing. Of course, that task is not simple enough given the obstacles and Eggman's robots that continually obstruct the path, Zazz's frequent harassment, and of course, time. Again, four stages divide the challenge. By collecting enough cards to advance through each stage, players will receive the following prizes: a ring streak bonus, a golden badnik bonus, several revive tokens, and the grand prize of Sonic Lost World wallpapers. Like the previous global challenge, both individual players and the worldwide community must collect as many cards as possible. No player will advance through each stage without collecting a set number of cards himself or herself and all players in the world also collecting a set number of cards that is separate from each player's requirement. Players can simply track the progress of the challenge by accessing the global challenge section in-game.

From the time of this post, players have only a week to complete the challenge. If you want your share of these Sonic Lost World wallpapers, then you must start dashing!

Also, if, by any chance, you don't know the Deadly Six, then please briefly watch the following video.

Sonic Dash - Battle Zazz!

SEGA and Hardlight released an update today for the hit infinite runner of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Dash.

In light of the recent release of the Sonic the Hedgehog series' latest installation, Sonic Lost World, Sonic Dash now features an on-the-run battle with one of Sonic's newest foes, the psychotic Zazz of the Deadly Six. Riding on his trademark moon-shaped machine that fires star-shaped projectiles, the hyped Zeti will suddenly appear to try to stop Sonic and his friends on their tracks and knock them down. Can you help Sonic and his friends knock down this adrenaline-crazy foe?

Also, another global challenge is coming with Sonic Lost World-themed prizes on the line. Look out for the challenge!

Remember, Sonic Dash is entirely free for iOS devices!

Song of the Week: October 18, 2013

Song: "Final Destination"
Artist: Coldrain
Album: Final Destination (2009)

I can't look back, not anymore
I've given up too much to throw this away now
I can't look back, not anymore
'Cause I know now I'm heading to my final destination

And after a month, "song of the week" returns.

Coldrain is a Japanese rock and alternative metal band from Nagoya. It consists of vocalist Masato, who is Japanese-American, guitarists Y.K.C. (Yokochi) and Sugi, bassist RxYxO (Ryo), and drummer Katsuma. Coldrain, who formed in 2007, started as a local band that performed in their hometown of Nagoya. From their hometown, despite that all of their songs are entirely in English, they gradually became popular. One year later, in 2008, VAP, a major music label in Japan, offered a major contract to the band, and the band signed it. From that point, Coldrain released two singles, two extended plays, and three studio albums. Their most recent release was The Revelation in 2013; David Bendeth, a multi-platinum award-winning record producer who was also behind the albums of notable bands and artists such as Breaking Benjamin, In Flames, Papa Roach, and Paramore, directed the album. Also, Coldrain had several tours throughout their country; their most notable one included their participation in Summer Sonic, a major rock music festival in Japan, in 2009.

According to JaME World, Coldrain's musical and lyrical style as a rock and alternative metal band is often compared to those of My Chemical Romance. Their songs range from simple, melodic rock songs to heavier, guitar-shredding songs with screams as reminiscent to songs of the post-hardcore and metalcore subgenres. Also, with all of their songs being entirely in English and the band itself sounding like its counterparts in the west, Western audiences might find the fact that Coldrain is from Japan to be quite surprising.

The first song from Coldrain's first album, Final Destination, has the same name as the album. Albums often start with the best-sounding song or one the album's best-sounding songs, and following that idea, "Final Destination" is clearly one of Coldrain's hit songs. After all, the album is named after the song. "Final Destination" definitely shows Coldrain's potential as a rock and alternative metal band. It features a good mix of melody and heavy beats from the guitars and drums, making the song comparable to similar songs of the band's Western counterparts. Masato's vocals, especially his screams, are also just as comparable. The song's lyrical theme of moving forward can be also something to note. In short, "Final Destination" shows that Coldrain is on the same level as My Chemical Romance and other similar rock bands in regards to musical and lyrical style. However and unfortunately, Coldrain's reach still remains quite limited to only their home country of Japan.

Sonic Dash Global Challenge - Blaze Unlocked!

Congratulations, Sonic Dash players!

Despite a very slow start, we completed the second Sonic Dash global challenge just before the challenge ended yesterday. Along with winning a reasonable amount of ring streak bonuses, enemy streak bonuses, and Golden Badnik bonuses, we won the challenge's grand prize of playing as the reserved, but literally fiery heroine who debuted in Sonic Rush, Blaze the Cat.

With the second global challenge a [very narrow] success, let's look forward to the next potential global challenge. Until then, keep dashing!

Don't you have the hit infinite runner Sonic Dash on your Apple iOS device? If you don't have the game, remember again that the game is absolutely free to download and absolutely fun to play! Get Sonic Dash at the App Store!

Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS - Sonic Joins the Battle!

Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games - Gameplay Trailer

Updates: October 2013

Hi, everyone.

The tenth month of the year finally arrives, and it does so with a bang. Further details that briefly elaborate that will come separately.

Here, on the contrary, October will not be a very productive month. As I become busier with my own important activities - in other words, classes, projects, and assignments - don't expect much or even anything from both BLACKBLUR7 and BLACKBLURX, unless whatever might happen otherwise.

However, after considering for a long time the fact that my first YouTube Channel (under the BLACKBLUR7 handle) is more of a channel for music and soundtracks of video games than a channel for videos of video games (as in gameplay videos), on October 3, I will open a new YouTube Channel under the BLACKBLUR7X handle. As I implied from that statement, BLACKBLUR7X will be solely dedicated to gameplay videos. Of course, that does not mean I will stop posting gameplay videos on BLACKBLUR7. To define what BLACKBLUR7X will feature in another way, the new channel will contain gameplay videos and "let's plays" that are not necessarily of or related to the Sonic the Hedgehog series as BLACKBLUR7 is mostly.

While at least nothing will come from BLACKBLUR7 and BLACKBLURX, as soon as I open BLACKBLUR7X, I will post gameplay videos of the hit Nintendo GameCube game Mario Power Tennis. I have recorded the videos a long time ago, but I have yet to post them anywhere. Please check them out and briefly enjoy the year 2004 as soon as (after the channel is opened) they are posted.

And lastly, about those soundtracks and the links that have to be updated... I have done a few during last month, but I have to yet to upload them. Very likely, given how busy I am, I will not be doing that during this month, but in case I do, look out for the big banner at the top of the site that displays which soundtracks are not available to download.

That is all.

Sayonara.

P.S. What happened to the current Sonic Dash Global Challenge?

Sonic Dash Global Challenge - Unlock Blaze!

Sonic Dash

SEGA and Hardlight, the developer of Sonic Dash and Sonic Jump, started the second global challenge for Sonic Dash players. The challenge is straightforward: aim for the highest score possible. Like the first global challenge, four stages, each with an in-game prize, divide the challenge. The grand prize for completing the challenge is the ability to play for free as another notable character of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Blaze the Cat.

Of course, as this is a global challenge, successfully completing each of the challenges four stages requires both an individual and a worldwide community effort. Unlike the first and previous challenge, of which the most hardcore of players very likely contributed most to the challenge's successful completion, to advance to each stage of this challenge, both individual players and the worldwide community must aim and accumulate the highest scores possible. Once both the individual players and the worldwide community attain a set total score for a particular stage, they can advance to the next stage of the challenge. In the game's global challenge section, players can track progress; the left bar indicates the player's individual progress while the right bar indicates the worldwide community's progress. Again, both bars must be filled in order to progress to the next stage!

As of now, players have only about one week to complete the challenge! Time is running quickly, so start dashing!

MiXE1 (which is pronounced as "Mike's 1") is an underground electronic rock band from Hertfordshire, England. It consists of Mike Evans on vocals, Lee Towson on guitar, Lee O'Brien on drums, and Marcos Farias on bass. Their sound, aside from the overall brooding electronic sound, varies between songs, with one song as heavy as metal and another song as light as a ballad.

Lights Out, which came earlier this year, is the band's latest release - a six-track extended play.

Song of the Week: September 13, 2013

Song: "Copy of A"
Artist: Nine Inch Nails
Album: Hesitation Marks (2013)

I am just a copy of a copy of a copy
Everything I say has come before
Assembled into something into something into something
I don't know for certain anymore

First of all, happy Friday the 13th.

Trent Reznor is Nine Inch Nails - an American, one-man industrial band from Cleveland, Ohio. Since its inception in 1988, Nine Inch Nails released nine major albums beginning with 1989's Pretty Hate Machine and most recently with 2013's Hesitation Marks. The band was nominated for twelve Grammy Awards; out of the twelve, the band won two. The release of 1994's The Downward Spiral brought Nine Inch Nails into the spotlight of the music scene and popularized industrial music in general at the time. From this highlight of the band, critics of today's music industry often attribute Nine Inch Nails as a major influence of more recent, similar acts and industrial and rock music in general.

Nine Inch Nails' sound varies between albums and songs. However, most of the songs feature very complex arrangements of percussion, beats, guitar riffs, and various sound effects as such elements are usually found in industrial music in general. Some songs in some of Nine Inch Nails' albums include variations of a particular melody, beat, or lyric that serves as some sort of motif that runs in the album, such as Reznor's frequent use of the statement "Nothing can stop me now." Also, Reznor's vocal work varies between and during songs, following somewhat of a similar pattern, from, for example, soft, whisper-like vocals in the verses to loud yells in the chorus.

From Nine Inch Nails' most recent release, Hesitation Marks, is "Copy of A." Like some of the other songs of the album, "Copy of A" is not as heavy compared to most songs from past albums. A wavering, looping synthesizer line begins and powers the song; as the song progresses, more musical elements, such as drums, and other special effects stack on top of and in time with the synthesizer line, resulting in a very complex arrangement. The most distinctive feature of this song, however, is the use of the vocal loops that restart in time with the song, hence the song's title. Overall, "Copy of A," although seemingly minimalistic, lighter, and simple compared to songs from past albums, marks a promising return of Nine Inch Nails since the band's last album in 2008, The Slip.

Updates: September 2013

Hi.

September is finally here, as we all are already aware. The last days of the summer season of this year fly away one by one as the fall season approaches, and of course, by around this time, a practical number of us, including me, are returning to the classrooms for another exciting school year.

Here, September will be relatively straightforward.

First, the BLACKBLUR7 YouTube Channel is simply and only "Let's Play Sonic the Hedgehog 4."

Second, for the BLACKBLURX YouTube Channel, from which I have not posted anything for almost half of a year, I will introduce MiXE1 (which is pronounced as "Mike's 1"), an underground electronic rock band from Hertfordshire, England, which consists of Mike Evans on vocals, Lee Towson on guitar, Lee O'Brien on drums, and Marcos Farias on bass. Their sound, aside from the overall brooding electronic sound, varies between songs, with one song as heavy as metal and another song as light as a ballad. I will post their most recent extended play, Lights Out.

Last, I will start updating those soundtrack downloads. Again, look out for the big banner at the top of the site that displays which soundtracks are not available to download.

That is all.

Bye.

Song of the Week: September 4, 2013

Song: "Harbor Speedway"
Artist: Stewart Copeland
From: Spyro: Year of the Dragon (2000)

Let's go back almost ten years to the year 2000 - the new millennium.

The Year of the Dragon.

Before we continue, let's grab our nostalgia caps and put them on.

Instead of a song from a particular artist, from a particular album, this week's song comes from a classic video game that, among a few other games, defined my childhood in relation to video games. As hinted (and as everyone can clearly see), the game in question is Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

As so since the first game in the series, the renowned American musician and ex-drummer of The Police, Stewart Copeland, composed and arranged the awesome music featured in what would have been the final game in a trilogy as intended by Insomniac Games. As appropriate to the Spyro the Dragon series' "speedway" levels of which players guide the titular purple dragon around an open speedway consisting of various obstacles and objects to destroy, and rings and arches to pass through, the theme of Harbor Speedway features a groovy with elements of electronic music and orchestra music. The final result of that mix is a song that, although distinct to the overall music of the Spyro the Dragon series, is quite energetic and fun to listen to, especially when actually playing through Harbor Speedway itself.

Song of the Week - August 26, 2013

Song: "Letting Go"
Artists: BT, Fractal, and JES
Album: A Song Across Wires (2013)

Everything that you got
Feeds your fire
And I don’t know how you do it
And you know you’re always gonna be the same
But you can’t see it and I, I, I can’t control it

BT, whose full name is Brian Transeau, is a Grammy Award-nominated American musician who is well-known for his creative work in the electronic dance music scene and is often considered as a pioneer of trance music. He holds a Guinness World Record for the most vocal edits in a single recording with "Somnambulist (Simply Being Loved)," which has 6,178 vocal edits. With the recent release of A Song Across Wires, he has released nine studio albums, beginning with 1995's Ima.

The second track in his latest studio album, "Letting Go," is a collaboration with fellow electronic musician Fractal and longtime guest vocalist JES. Although BT has ventured through other genres of music with his expertise in electronic dance music, notably alternative metal, hip hop, and pop, longtime fans of BT will find this song very unexpected; this is a dubstep song. The song starts in BT's recognizable style with JES showing her great vocal work. Almost two minutes into the song, when JES sings the chorus from which the song's title is derived, and the melody builds to what might be a relatively brief dance groove, the song suddenly drops and the familiar two-step tempo comes out. Luckily for those like me who are not really fans of the relatively hyped electronic music subgenre called dubstep, this is not a dubstep song that emphasizes the use of the wobble bass ("wub wub"). The beat that powers the two-step tempo is quite heavy enough as BT twists his six-minute dubstep journey with Fractal and JES into his own style with his use of his patented stutter edit, among other elements, although the result seems somewhat messy in some areas. The melody rebuilds with JES's vocals again shortly after and unleashes the familiar two-step beat once more before the song ends in a calm note.

Sonic Lost World - A Cutscene

As shown a few days ago in Nintendo of Japan's most recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo of Japan released a brief preview of very likely one of the first cutscenes of the next game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, the Nintendo-exclusive Sonic Lost World. The cutscene, obviously in Japanese, shows Sonic and his best friend, Tails, encountering once again Dr. Eggman and his robotic minions, notably Orbot and Cubot, and, for the first time, the Deadly Six. You can watch the preview below.

Earlier today in the official Sonic the Hedgehog-themed convention in America, Sonic Boom, SEGA of America exclusively revealed, along with a new, exclusive trailer of the game, the same cutscene in full and in English. You can watch the cutscene, which was recorded directly from the convention's official livestream, below.

Sonic Lost World will be released on October 22.
In Japan, it will be released on October 24.

Updates: August 2013

Hola.

Time really does fly. Doesn't it?

Today is already August, and for almost all of you youngsters and teens, and some or a few of you adults as well, the end of summer is near. In turn, this means the next school year is just over the horizon.

Besides this, what is there to expect this month?

From me, at least, while I anticipate and prepare to return back for some dedicated work and studying, I hope to, finally and once and for all, post my first ever "let's play" of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. So far, I finished all recording of Episode I. I am almost halfway with recording Episode II and Episode Metal. With recording of Episode I already done, however, I have not started doing any editing and rendering yet. If I am able to get more opportunities, then I may be able to finish by the end of the month.

Besides that, as some of you might have seen, I updated some sections of my Blogger page, especially the "Help" section. In my Tumblr, which is still relatively under construction, I added some of the same, aforementioned sections found in my Blogger page.

And yes, I have still yet to update those soundtrack downloads. However, my top priority now is finishing that "let's play." Once I am finally done with that, I will finally start updating those. However, if I find myself updating them sooner, then look out for the big banner at the top of the site that displays which soundtracks are not available to download.

Until then, adios.

Song of the Week - August 5, 2013

Song: "Set Me On Fire"
Artist: Pendulum
Album: Immersion (2010)

While I met some boy
While cross the Rivanna, Quasimana
Rain came fisted and bright
It must be Alta Vada, tell 'em again

Pendulum is an Australian-British electronic rock and drum and bass group from Perth. The band currently consists of Rob Swire on vocals and synthesizers, bass guitarist and DJ Gareth McGrillen, DJ Paul "El Hornet" Harding, Peredur ap Gwynedd on guitar, KJ Sawka on drums, and MC Bent Mount, who is best known as MC Verse. Since their formation in 2002, they have released three studio albums: Hold Your Colour in 2005, In Silico in 2008, and Immersion in 2010. Although their musical style at first was pure drum and bass, they eventually included elements of rock and metal music, since Swire and McGrillen were part of a metal band prior to the formation of Pendulum. Currently, following the release of Immersion, Pendulum is on hiatus, since Swire and McGrillen decided to form Knife Party, their house music-focused side project. However, the remaining members still perform DJ sets under the Pendulum name.

From Immersion, "Set Me On Fire" is unlike most of Pendulum's other songs such that it is a dubstep song. However, compared to today's dubstep songs, which are largely performed by the likes of Skrillex and emphasize frequent use of the wobble bass, "Set Me On Fire" is more or less akin to "classical," more easygoing dubstep. The song begins with a moderately-paced introduction backed by female vocals before carefully building up and dropping to the familiar, two-step beat. From there, the overall melody remains the same until three minutes into the song, when the melody briefly slows before returning to the original tempo. An aspect to note in this dubstep song is the inclusion of reggae vocals during the song, which, very likely, is Pendulum's nod of acknowledgement to dubstep's origins in reggae music. Although "Set Me On Fire" presents Pendulum's relatively sudden diversion from drum and bass to dubstep, the overall sound, as fans and listeners of Pendulum are concerned, is still distinctly Pendulum's.

Song of the Week - July 28, 2013

Song: "Omen"
Artist: Crossfaith
Album: The Dream, The Space (2011)

Now
The writings on the wall
It won't go away
It's an omen
You just run on automation

Yes. Apparently, this week's song of the week is also last week's song of the week.

Crossfaith is a Japanese metalcore band from Osaka. It consists of Kenta Koie on vocals, Terufumi Tamano on keyboards and programming, Kasuki Takemura on guitar, Hiroki Ikegawa on bass, and Tatsuya Amano on drums. Although a metalcore band, their music consists of elements from electronic music. After forming in 2006, they released their first studio album, The Artificial Theory For The Dramatic Beauty, in 2009. Following touring with other metalcore and rock bands like Hatebreed and Machine Head, in 2011, Tragic Hero Records, a North Carolina-based, rock and metal-focused record label, signed the band and helped them release their second studio album, The Dream, The Space in the United States to an ever-growing international fanbase. Following the release of their well-received second extended play, Zion, in the following year, Crossfaith participated in various tours, which included the 2012 Vans Warped Tour in London and the 2013 Soundwave music festival in Australia. This September, the band will release their third studio album, Apocalyze.

"Omen," originally performed by the world-renowned British electronic music group The Prodigy, is a bonus cover song in Crossfaith's second studio album, The Dream, The Space. It possesses the same melody and rhythm as the original song. Of course, the obvious difference in Crossfaith's cover version of the song, as expected, is Koie's growls and the heavy guitar riffs. Also, Crossfaith's version briefly diverts from the original song with Tamano's inclusion of a brief dubstep, synthesizer-guided melody almost halfway into the song before returning to the main melody. In short, Crossfaith's version of The Prodigy's popular hit is a much heavier version of "Omen."

Song: "Omen"
Artist: The Prodigy
Album: Invaders Must Die (2009)

Now
The writings on the wall
It won't go away
It's an omen
You just run on automation

The Prodigy is a world-renowned British electronic dance music group from Braintree, Essex consisting of founder, keyboarder, synthesizer, and programmer Liam Howlett, and vocalists Keith Flint and Keith Palmer, who is best known as "Maxim Reality" or just "Maxim." Formed in 1990, The Prodigy is well-known as one of the pioneers of the big beat subgenre of electronic music, which is categorized by heavy, breaking beats with synthesizer loops and the inclusion of elements of rock and punk music, among other sound effects and defining elements. Some of their widely-recognized songs include "Breathe," "Firestarter," "Spitfire," and "You'll Be Under My Wheels."

Likewise, the Kerrang! Award-winning "Omen," which is the second track of The Prodigy's most recently-released album, Invaders Must Die, is just as popular. With a catchy, synthesizer melody, simple, memorizable lyrics, and a rocking beat, like most of The Prodigy's most popular songs, it is a song that is relatively really easy to find dancing to and a song to help pump some adrenaline into one's system. Let's not forget to note the xylophone melody that plays in the middle and at the end of the song that presents the song's easily-recognizable main idea of horror movie themes, hence the song's title, "Omen."

Updates: July 2013

Hi.

Clearly, I haven't committed myself to here lately. I really don't have the slightest interest to do so. Well, summer has officially and finally arrived, and thus, the days are longer and more importantly, hotter (but not here lately).

Once again, "Let's Play Sonic the Hedgehog 4" is delayed. As a matter of fact, I finished the first episode, commentary and all, but all of the raw video recordings had audio problems, prompting me to do everything over again. Depending on my interest on doing so, hopefully, I will post the first videos near the end of July or in the beginning of August. Otherwise, I will completely dump it, and we will all forget about it.

As for everything else, don't expect much. Things have been moving very slow lately, indeed.

Bye.

Song of the Week - July 13, 2013

Song: "Cruel Daze of Summer"
Artist: Julien-K
Album: We're Here With You (2012)

Don’t tell me what you’re running from
Or what you’ve done
These cruel days of summer burn so long
The vows we made are under attack
I feel myself pushing back, back, back
Don’t tell me what you’re running from
Or what you’ve done

Julien-K is an American electronic rock band from Long Beach, California that currently consists of ex-Orgy guitarists Ryan Shuck on guitar and vocals and Amir Derakh on guitar and synthesizers, bassist and keyboard player Anthony "Fu" Valcic, and drummer Frank Zummo. Fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games may recognize this band as the one behind "This Machine," the theme song of Team Dark in Sonic Heroes, and "Waking Up," one of the theme songs of Shadow the Hedgehog. Initially a side project of Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh while the two were part of Orgy, the band became their main project following the recent disbandment of the original lineup of Orgy. Julien-K's sound was initially dark, but beginning with their most recent album, We're Here With You, it is more upbeat, closely reflecting the band's influences of 80's new wave music.

"Cruel Daze of Summer," the third track and second single of We're Here With You, is, to be brief, like most of the album, upbeat, rhythmic, and simple. With Shuck's fairly polished vocals and the careful balance of electronic and rock elements like most of Julien-K's songs, it is a relatively fun song to listen to.

Song of the Week - June 27, 2013

Song: "Ghosts (feat. Tom Salta)"
Artist: Celldweller
Album: Celldweller (10 Year Anniversary Edition) (2013)

Ghosts
Recreate the fear
To think it's only in their minds
Will make them weaker

Celldweller is a Detroit-based electronic, industrial, and metal music project consisting solely of multi-instrumentalist Klayton. It formed following the disbandment and dissolution of Klayton's previous metal and industrial projects, notably Circle of Dust and Argyle Park. Continuing the dark and aggressive style of music that Klayton produced for the last works of Circle of Dust, Celldweller was initially centered with the industrial metal genre. Following the release of the debut Celldweller album in 2003, Klayton steadily progressed his project towards elements of various genres of electronic music, notably drum and bass and more recently, dubstep. Despite this approach, Klayton still retains the enigmatic and heavy elements of industrial and metal music that he had grown with and used in his earliest works as a musician.

"Ghosts," which features electronic musician and soundtrack composer Tom Salta, who is also known as Atlas Plug, is the first track of the second disc of the two-disc deluxe edition of the tenth anniversary edition of Celldweller's debut album. "Ghosts" is one of Celldweller's recent songs that showcases "classic," industrial metal Celldweller. To emphasize the song's overall gloominess and the theme of ghosts, as expressed by the title and the lyrics, Salta inserts dark ambient noises in the beginning of the song to create the song's ghostly tone and includes frequent uses of strings and violins for a more appropriate, orchestral feel. Overall, "Ghosts" is a nod to Celldweller fans who enjoy more of Celldweller's industrial and metal elements, and with Salta's creative, musical genius involved, a song to help one's mind wander in places probably unexplored.

Updates: June 2013

Hi.

Hello, summer.

First and most importantly, I have returned to continue where I have left off about two months ago. Let's conveniently break down what we will all [hopefully] expect from me here beginning this month.

"Let's Play Sonic the Hedgehog 4"

Yes, this has been delayed for far too long.

I will start doing a semi-blind "let's play" of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for the PlayStation 3 this month. I will post the first videos as soon as possible - that is, given I have an ideal timetable for recording, editing, and exporting each video.

Soundtrack Album Updating

Again, I will be updating some of the soundtrack albums posted here primarily for mistakes in some of the songs as spotted by those of you who reported the mistakes to me. For those of you who are going to retrieve some of the soundtrack albums here, be aware of the banner on top of this website, below the giant logo, that shows which soundtrack albums are not available at the moment. On the other hand, the links to the soundtrack albums that are not available will not be available in the first place.

Soundtrack / BGM Videos

Starting this month, I will stop posting further videos of music from various past soundtrack albums myself. In other words, the next soundtrack videos that I will post are those featuring music from a recently-released soundtrack or game (Sonic Lost World), given I have the music. However, I will take requests for music that I have not posted yet, given I have the requested music.

Other Updates and Notes

Tuesday, June 11, is the first day of E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo), the biggest and most anticipated of video game conventions. The annual convention will run until Thursday, June 13. Check your most-trusted video game websites and media for updates and news of the upcoming games and relevant video game companies that will be or may be present in E3. Coverage of the convention may begin as early as tomorrow.

June 23, as most of you fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games, like me, are aware, is the 22nd anniversary of the series.

I do not have anything planned for the music (second) YouTube channel.

That is all for now.

Bye.

Song of the Week - May 27, 2013

Song: "Blue Monday"
Artist: Orgy
Album: Candyass (1998)

How does it feel
To treat me like you do
When you've laid your hands upon me
And told me who you are

This provocatively-named alternative metal band, formed in 1994, originally consisted of vocalist Jay Gordon, guitarists Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (who are now best known as the leading members of the alternative rock and electronic rock band Julien-K), bassist Paige Haley, and drummer Bobby Hewitt. (Following a hiatus in 2005, because of arguments between Gordon and the rest of the band members, the band reformed in 2011 with Gordon retaining his role as vocalist, guitarists Carlton Bost and Ashburn Miller, bassist Nic Speck, and drummer Bobby Amaro.) With artists of the new wave genre of music such as Depeche Mode and New Order as some of their influences, the fact that their rock cover of New Order's "Blue Monday" brought them to fame and the release of three studio albums as of now is probably no surprise. Besides, "Blue Monday" is one of New Order's most popular songs.

Of course, not all of us listen or really enjoy the simple, synthesizer-heavy music that characterized the new wave genre of music and 80's pop and rock music in general. Thankfully, Orgy came and presented their interpretation of New Order's lengthy classic. One familiar with with the original will easily recognize the song's opening of drums to set the song. Of course, in place of the synthesizers present in the original are guitars. Following the brief introduction, however, instead of immediately going to the first verse as it is in the original, Shuck, Derakh, and Haley blast away for a good period of headbanging. The rest of the song, in short, being a cover song, simply follows the original, but with more rock. Probably the best and simplest way to summarize Orgy's version of "Blue Monday" is to grab "Blue Monday," remove some of the new wave elements, add the guitars, and from there, make it harder and heavier.

Exclusive Partnership Between Nintendo and SEGA for Upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog Games

As most of you are aware, yesterday, SEGA announced an exclusive partnership with Nintendo for the next three games of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Out of the three games mentioned, however, only two were introduced - the next entry of the Mario and Sonic series, centered in the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, and Sonic Lost World. The third Nintendo-exclusive game will be officially announced soon.

Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games*

*Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games is NOT the title of the next entry of the Mario and Sonic series of games. More details about the game will be announced as soon as they surface.

As probably expected, the next entry of the Mario and Sonic series of games, centered in the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, will be released for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo's Global President, Satoru Iwata, introduced the game and discussed a few details about the game in yesterday's edition of Nintendo Direct. Above is yesterday's edition of Nintendo Direct; President Iwata starts talking about the next entry of the Mario and Sonic series as soon as it begins.

Sonic Lost World

Also, Nintendo, through yesterday's edition of Nintendo Direct, and SEGA directly and officially announced the next entry of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Sonic Lost World. According to the game's official Japanese website, Sonic Lost World will be released this fall for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS. Besides these, no other details were officially released; more will come prior to E3, which will take place from June 11 to June 13.

Song: "Never Dance Again"
Artist: Blue Stahli
Album: Never Dance Again (2013)

I saw you hold his hand and walk across the street one day
You and your lover never made it out of the way
So I guess you'll never dance again

Blue Stahli is a Detroit-based, American electronic rock project by multi-instrumentalist Bret Autrey, who was also behind American electronic projects Voxis, Remorse Code, and Dark Places. Blue Stahli came to be what it is now beginning with Autrey's meeting with Klayton (Celldweller). Following releasing his first single, "Kill Me Every Time," and his first collection album, Antisleep, Vol. 01, all of which came to be through Blue Stahli's connections with Celldweller, Blue Stahli would continue with his first and eponymous studio album and two more trailer-friendly collection albums simply named Antisleep, Vol. 02 and Antisleep, Vol. 03, among other releases.

Blue Stahli's most recent release is a single entitled Never Dance Again. The song from which the single was named is, according to Blue Stahli himself, "a sarcastic, yet upbeat slice of 80's chainsaw pop." Indeed, "Never Dance Again" is a brief nod to the pop rock of the 1980s, complete with synthesizers, synthesized guitars, and rather cheesy lyrics that fit to the cheery tone of the song. Two minutes, however, seems very short for a relatively catchy song. In short, "Never Dance Again," although very brief, is Blue Stahli's interpretation of 80's pop rock.

Song of the Week - May 7, 2013

Song: "Forget Me"
Artist: BT
Album: These Hopeful Machines (2010)

Let us remember
Life's such a beautiful mistake
It's precious and fragile
Sometimes more than we can take

It's stronger than fire
Created in all the walls we reach
And I don't know what you want from me
But I don't want to be perfect anymore

The majority of my music library so far consists of aggressive tracks, most of which are of the metal genre. However, I have exceptions for all of the good reasons.

Brian Transeau, better known as BT, is a Grammy-nominated American musician of the electronic music genre, specifically in the IDM (intelligent dance music), trance, and ambient subgenres. He is often considered to be a pioneer of the trance subgenre. He holds a Guinness World Record for the most vocal edits in a single recording with "Somnambulist (Simply Being Loved)," which has 6,178 vocal edits. Throughout his career, Transeau released eight studio albums beginning with 1995's Ima and most recently with 2012's If the Stars are Eternal So are You and I and Morceau Subrosa.

Although a number of his hits fit into the pop genre and often considered to be mainstream at the time, Transeau is, by almost no doubt, a musical genius, mainly because he is a classically-trained musician. With his creativity and expertise in electronic music, Transeau's songs, notably his earliest works from 1995's Ima and 1997's ESCM, are often complex in structure. He also especially applies his classical background in his studio albums This Binary Universe, If the Stars are Eternal So are You and I, and Morceau Subrosa. Additionally, Transeau's works really tap into one's emotions and feelings. For the songs with vocals, the lyrics that accompany the songs definitely tie to the songs' overall tones and sounds. As a musician of the trance and ambient subgenres, one might unknowingly doze as he or she explores the landscapes, or rather, soundscapes, brought by Transeau.

Coming from the two-disc, Grammy-nominated album, These Hopeful Machines, is "Forget Me." The sixth and final song from the first disc, "Forget Me" is an electronic pop rock song. On the surface, "Forget Me" seems to be a simple, upbeat song with messages of love and togetherness written all over it. However, reading the lyrics and exploring the song a little more carefully and further, the song conveys deeper messages than simply about love and togetherness. Note the end of the song; Transeau's only daughter, Kaia, sings a variation of the chorus (shown above), emphasizing the song's overall tone and theme. Also note, following Kaia's brief appearance, the sound of rain that makes up the final few minutes of the nine-minute song; that also adds to the song's overall tone and theme. To sum everything, "Forget Me" is a beautiful song that one should listen to at least once because of the deep message it conveys.

Temporary Hiatus - April 2013

Hello, everyone.

Apparently, April is one crammed month for me. Clearly, not everything that I posted in the beginning of the month went as planned. Well, one individual can only do and manage so much without knocking himself or herself out.

This said, starting today, I am placing all further activity, especially activity on YouTube, on hold for at least a good month or two. However, I will still post entries for "Who's That Character," "Song of the Week," and other relevant entries given I have some spare time to type one or two paragraphs about whatever topic or piece of news I want to share.

That is all.

Au revoir.

Song of the Week - April 20, 2013

Song: "斑 -まだら-" ("Madara")
Artist: Sadie
Album: 双刻の艶 (Soukoku no Tsuya) (2013)

斑に染められし人の儚き今を綴る彩飾は
輪廻の花のように咲いて枯れて朽ちて生まれる想い溢れた

Sadie (pronounced "sah-dee" instead of "say-dee") is a Japanese alternative metal band of the visual kei subgenre and style from Osaka. Formed in 2005, the band consists of Mao (真緒) on vocals, Mizuki (美月) on lead guitar, Tsurugi (剣) on rhythm guitar, Aki (亜季) on bass, and Kei (景) on drums. They have released four studio albums - the first one being 2008's Undead 13+2 and the most recent one being 2012's The Black Diamonds - and a plethora of mini-albums, extended plays, and singles.

The band's style of music, and often, appearance, bear a close similarity with that of my most favorite Japanese bands so far, Dir En Grey, making the band also one of my favorite Japanese bands. Like Dir En Grey's songs, Sadie's songs are usually dark. However, unlike Dir En Grey's songs, which are often complex in structure and vary in rhythm and style from song to song, most of Sadie's songs are usually very rhythmic, straightforward, and often catchy.

Sadie's latest release, released on March 27, is a three-song maxi-single entitled 双刻の艶 (Soukoku no Tsuya). "斑 -まだら" ("Madara") is the first song from the single.

"Madara" starts out with a brief piano introduction and proceeds slowly, steadily building energy beginning with Mao's soft, high vocals and the first guitar riffs by Mizuki, Tsurugi, and Aki about thirty seconds into the song. Mao then demonstrates his low and high notes and his carefully polished death growls shortly before the chorus, which comes a little after two minutes into song. Following the brief chorus, the song suddenly slows down as the piano from the beginning of the song returns. However, Mao revives the energy from earlier with death growls that accompany the guitar and drum work by the rest of the band before proceeding with the rest song in the same way as he did in the first half of the song. Finally, Mao finishes his part by unleashing a final series of death growls before the same, aforementioned piano drops the overall energy of the song once more, and the song ends.

Overall, "Madara" is another great composition by Sadie, for it displays the dark, alternative metal style of music that the band is well-known for.

Song of the Week - April 11, 2013

Song: "Unraveling"
Artist: Dir En Grey
Album: The Unraveling (2013)

胸を癒すように深まる
名も無き明日に。
こうして歩き出す
もう見えない朝は綺麗?

One of my most favorite bands is the Japanese metal band Dir En Grey. Formed in 1997, the band consists of the unchanged lineup of Kyo (京) on vocals, Kaoru (薫) and Die on guitars, Toshiya on bass, and Shinya on drums. They have released eight studio albums: the first one being 1999's Gauze and the most recent one being 2011's Dum Spiro Spero.

I first came across Dir En Grey when I first began studying the Japanese language. Although I wasn't familiar about the language at the time, I soon found myself listening to them more because of their unique sound. Unlike most other metal bands that I often listen to, Dir En Grey's musical style, since the band's inception, clearly continues to evolve after every release. The next release always sounds different to a specific degree compared to the previous release. The band's first releases introduced their experimental and progressive rock sound that was more akin to alternative rock and pop rock, which appropriately accompanied their visual kei outfit at the time. In the following years, the band started to incorporate particular aspects from other music genres into their music, such as electronic, industrial, oriental, and the death metal, nu metal, and metalcore subgenres of metal. The visual kei outfit they initially wore slowly dissipated, and their overall sound grew darker and heavier. Additionally, Kyo's vocals, which encompass a very wide range from low, death growls to very high screams, are another highlighting aspect of Dir En Grey's sound. Kyo's vocals strongly tie with each song's overall mood and tone, and most importantly, the lyrics, most of which Kyo wrote, which regularly implicitly discusses about usually controversial and sensitive topics. In short, Dir En Grey, because of their gradually changing musical style, is a progressive, experimental, and perhaps, avant-garde, metal band.

Anyway, "Unraveling" is the opening track and the only new song from Dir En Grey's latest release from last week - a mini-album or extended play identically titled The Unraveling. A moderately-paced song that displays the band's current musical style and sound, "Unraveling" starts simple, all of the band performing what they do best - Kaoru, Die, Toshiya, and Shinya provide the shreds, riffs, and rhythms that make this song interesting to listen to from the get-go, and Kyo focusing on clean, high vocals. The overall tone of the song is similarly dark as Dir En Grey's previous release, "輪郭" ("Rinkaku"), but heavier like most of the band's most recent songs. A little past the beginning of the final half of the song, Kyo carefully lets everything out with his signature screams and the overall energy of the song immediately heightens to the end. In short, "Unraveling" is a song that is clearly and exclusively Dir En Grey's. Although the song shares the overall darkness and heaviness from most recent songs, its groove clearly labels it as a new song.

Updates: April 2013

Hello, everyone.

April is another busy month for me, so again, don't expect any significant activity on YouTube from me. For blackblur7, with all in-game music from Sonic the Fighters posted, I will return to Sonic Unleashed and post the in-game music that I haven't posted initially, which include the music played in the boss battles, Gaia Gate, hub continents, Tornado Defense segments, and the "Werehog Battle Theme." For blackblurX, I don't have anything planned.

Also, I hope some of you are aware that I take soundtrack music requests - of course, given that I have the particular soundtrack album or the particular song. Any song from almost all of the soundtrack albums of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games is guaranteed. On second thought, I don't think I clearly mentioned this before...

In [very] late news, I thank everyone for garnering more than 10,000 subscribers for blackblur7. Thanks for the continued support as I do my best to maintain this as a source for music from the Sonic the Hedgehog series and a few others.

Outside of YouTube, once again, I'll be checking and updating the music files and their accompanying download links of all of the soundtrack albums I have posted here. A few of you reported to me about some errors and mistakes in the metadata of some of the music files in some of the soundtrack albums, so I will get to work in correcting all of them carefully and posting all of the soundtrack albums again as soon as possible. Therefore, some download links to the soundtrack albums will not be able starting around this time. I will put up a banner displaying which soundtrack albums will not be available at the time. Thank you all for the patience and cooperation.

Also, I will start posting a series of weekly blog entries, simply titled "Song of the Week," of which I share and introduce some of my favorite songs in my ever-expanding music library. Often, I might post about some of my favorite music albums and musicians, such as when I posted about Circle of Dust's debut album and second album, Brainchild.

That is all for now, I think.

See you all again soon.

Updates: March 2013

Hello, everyone.

As expected, activity is stagnant once again as I continue to focus more carefully on my college studies and life outside of the Internet in general. (Go to school, do your homework, study hard, and stop procrastinating, kids!)

I hope everyone enjoyed a lengthy six hours worth of online matchmaking gameplay from Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed. Once again, thanks to everyone whom I happened to race against in those online matchmaking lobbies for plenty of fun and interesting races. (Also, congratulations! You are on YouTube!)

Yes, few of the videos posted are nearly an hour long. For those of you who prefer to watch a quick five-minute single online race than a thirty-minute to an hour-long online session, sorry for the length. I'd rather record and post a full session or at least a significant portion of the full session than mass-uploading several clips of each race from the same session. (For those curious, the uploading process for the hour-long, one gigabyte videos took at most about thirty minutes.)

What's next, then? Unfortunately, I don't have anything significant planned next for blackblur7. For those of you who happen to still remember what I planned months ago that I would post gameplay of all of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, with gameplay of Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed done and the fact that I am unable to record and post gameplay at this moment in time, that is in the trash - perhaps for now. However, nostalgia and my childhood suddenly crashed into me lately, and therefore, I have been considering doing Let's Play's of two games in particular should I decide to completely ditch doing gameplay from Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Each of us must revisit a certain place or thing once in a while; what do you think about that?

For now, while I discover and unlock more of the curious secrets and powers of Java, C, C++, Python, and MIPS, among others, I will return back to posting and sharing music from the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games (and maybe others soon). Next on the list is the music from Sonic the Fighters, which was also known as Sonic Championship.

For blackblurX, with DJ Hidden's first studio album, "The Later After," posted back in December, I am going to post his second studio album, "The Words Below." For those of you who are fond of the drum and bass style of electronic music or dark electronic music in general, please check him out.

Also, as a handful of you have already observed, both of my YouTube channels are now in the new "One Channel" format, which I do like for its simplicity. For those of you curious or want to transform your YouTube channel into the new "One Channel" format, learn more about YouTube's new channel design here.

Lastly, for those of you who want to follow me around, you can find me now at Google Plus and, although relatively empty and obviously still under construction, Tumblr.

I definitely put down a big mouthful this time around - good thing. I should start posting more than the seemingly more ubiquitous "Who's That Character," among others, like so to a certain degree when I first created this blog. In other words, I should start making this blog more like a blog and do the same everywhere else. Hopefully, we will see the such as soon as possible.

That is all for now.

Auf Wiedersehen.
